I will be creating a diptych with 2 images that share a common thread through emotion, mood, color, composition, subject, or maybe just my interpretation. The images will be shot on film and taken here or there, of favorite things or random things. The idea is for me to take a closer look at how I see life, my photography and the relation between the two.

If you already know you can just skip on down. Last summer my good pal, Shannon, asked me be a part of a small group of photographers she was putting together for a monthly project. The idea was to share 10 images captured from one day over a 10 hour period and post on the 10th of the month. Storytelling, sharing bits of life, whatever you want to call it. It was the perfect opportunity to explore my creativity, document my daily life and hang out with some super talented ladies. I’ll have to say I am still thrilled to be a part of this project and look forward to what the new year brings from it. Be sure to follow the links through our entire group to see what each photographer has done.

My girls and I traveled to visit my family after Christmas. We visited family, opened too many presents, hung out with old friends, ate alot, we partied, and we partied some more. It was a good time. These images are from one day I spent there. All shot on my friend’s (borrowed) Contax G2. Its like a point and shoot rangefinder camera. Fits perfectly in your purse and super easy to use. Gosh, I’m starting to sound like an ad. Enjoy!

Hoping to get it up before the end of the year, but that didn’t happen. So here we are in twenty twelve, a new year, a new beginning.

Last January, I posted about my “goals” I had set for myself with my photography and business. I decided not to take on a 365 or 52 week project in fear of complete failure. Instead I chose to personally explore different areas in photography that interested me. I fell short on a few things but the big one was learning to shoot film. And guess what… I did. I mean, I am. I still have so much to learn, but I am now trying to shoot all of my personal work and some my client work on film. I have been obsessed for the longest, I could go on for days about it. So I’ll just say there is just something so real and organic, there is no mistaking the look or the process. Its the real deal and I’m crazy in love. Look for lots more in 2012.

I have decided stating resolutions out loud make me less likely to follow thru. Its like somebody making a rule and then (of course) I want to break it. I like the idea of keeping those thoughts in the back of mind and make an effort to work on them when the opportunity comes up. Here are a few things I would like to improve on or accomplish in the new year.

1. Speedbag/Boxing. It looks cool when people do it fast and who doesn’t like to look cool?. Plus boxing is the only cardio exercise I even remotely like.

2. My poker face. If you know me in real life, well I am naturally pretty expressive (think eye gestures and the like) and sometimes that gets me into trouble.

3. Take my photography to another level. Maybe 5 levels. Push myself to make these things in my head come to life and put myself out there more.

4. Actually live life. Like stop being afraid of circumstance or what if’s and make the most of everyday like it may be my last chance. I know that sounds pretty cliche’ but it really is true.

Sharing only black and whites today. These two were my first set of newborn twins to photograph. They were perfect angels and slept the entire time. Lucky me.

I loved shooting this session with the Schaur family. At their home doing what they enjoy. Reading books, walking to the park, playing and watching the airplanes take off and land.
